As part of our ongoing commitment to providing you with a safe place to relax and enjoy great food on Diani Beach, we’re delighted to announce that 100% of the team here at the Nomad Beach Bar have been fully vaccinated for COVID 19.

Offering great food, and regular entertainment, Nomad’s is one of the hottest spots on Diani Beach, and along with Indulge Fine Dining Restaurant is a must-visit for any guests to the area. With the main beach bar offering a fantastic range of light bites and more substantial meals and Indulge offering one of Kenya’s largest wine cellars and a stunning set menu prepared by our chef, there is something for everyone at Nomad.

We will continue to follow the guidance and safety advice from the Ministry of Health, and to follow the COVID protocols we have at the bar and restaurant, which include allowances for safe distancing, an increase in the number of handwash stations available, and for our team to continue to wear masks, that have so far proven to be very effective in keeping both our guests and team members safe over these difficult months.

Along with the team at the beach bar & restaurant, our partners at The Sands at Nomad, The Sands at Chale Island, Diving The Crab, Lazy Days Private Beach House, and the Thinking Green project have all also been fully vaccinated.

To end the month in style, we’re delighted to announce The Nomad Beer Weekend. Running from September 24th-26th, this event will showcase some of Kenya’s finest craft beers, along with special menus at both Nomad Beach Bar and Indulge Fine Dining Restaurant.

We have teamed up with the Nairobi-based craft brewers 254 Brewing Co & Bila Shaka, who will be supplying the festival with a fantastic range of quality craft beers for guests to enjoy. Whether you prefer the light and crisp flavours of a Golden Rump or the heady heights of 254’s Sand Trap, with many different beers on offer there really will be something for everyone. Across Saturday and Sunday, guests will be able to enjoy music from our resident DJ on Saturday and our live band on Sunday.

During the weekend event, diners at Nomad Beach Bar can enjoy a special Bavarian-themed menu, with traditional dishes from Germany that are commonly found throughout Europe’s famous beer halls.
At Indulge Fine Dining we will also be hosting a special beer pairing menu, with expert beer sommeliers from 254 Brewing and Bila Shaka on hand to guide you through a journey of hoppy flavours and scents.

Join us for this year’s Nomad Beer Weekend September 24th – 26th.

Free entry. Reservations for dining are required.

Let us introduce you to Chef Andrea Poggi, the inspiration behind the scrumptious meals served at Nomad Beach Bar and Restaurant.

Originally from the Italian part of Switzerland, Andrea discovered his passion for cooking at the age of 13, after attending a cooking lesson at school. From that moment, he knew ‘that was it’! At the age of 15, he started a culinary apprenticeship in Switzerland, obtained his diploma 3 years later and began his career working in Switzerland.

A few years later, Andrea decided to start exploring the wide world while pursuing his career in the challenging culinary industry. He first moved to Sardinia, Italy to work in the luxurious Hotel Cala di Volpe in Costa Smeralda, a well-known holiday destination for billionaire jet-setters. He then flew overseas to South America to work on board a cruise ship – a tough but educational experience, working 13 hours per day, 7 days a week. He then moved back to Europe and worked in Venice, Italy for 2 consecutive summer seasons, then in London, UK for 2 years before going back home, to Switzerland.

In 2014, Andrea felt the need to quench his wanderlust and flew to Kenya, where he finally settled. Since 2015 he has been working at Nomad Beach Bar and Restaurant, and what he loves above all here, is to be able to work with fresh produce from the Nomad farm. He also enjoys working with Chefs from around the world and being in contact with different cultures, further developing his open-mindedness!

Do not hesitate to ask to meet Chef Andrea, he is very happy to receive feedback – both good and less good – in order to improve his dishes! So it is no surprise if one of the great experience of your stay at Sands at Nomad will be the food, as Chef Andrea makes Nomad Beach Bar and Restaurant a haven for food lovers!

Nomad Beach Bar & Restaurant, boasts the most extensive wine collection on Kenya’s southern coast with a great collection of new and old world wines. Hand selected by our resident sommelier, the collection is housed in the temperature controlled owner’s wine cellar, which doubles up as a unique location for a private dining experience.

Our sommelier is on hand to pair our wines to perfection with the mouth-watering meals served at the restaurant. With a range of excellent dishes available on the menu, featuring cuisine from around the world, below are some of our suggestions to try the next time you visit:

    Food & Wine Pairing Choices:

Seafood connoisseurs will delight in our detox tuna fillet, expertly paired with one of our white wines from Alsace, such as the flowery and zesty Domaine Riefle Riesling.

Meat lovers might favour the Nanyuki beef medallion ‘Cafe de Paris’ with our rich and round red Italian wine, the Balbi Soprani Barolo.

Wood fired pizza pairs very well with the Italian rosé Planeta, a blend of Syrah & Nero D’Avola.

If you want to take your wine tasting and knowledge to the next level, book yourself a wine tasting dinner, housed in the owner’s exclusive wine cellar. Housing a maximum of 10 guests, try some of our finest wines, hand selected by our sommelier and perfectly paired with a special food menu.

    Sommelier – Moses:

Whether you have a question, need a suggestion or just want to talk about our wine collection, our sommelier, Moses is always on hand to help you choose the right wine!

Thanks to his extensive background working in the Maldives for the famous hotel LUX in North Male and in Abu Dhabi for the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Moses is certainly one of Kenya’s south coast’s top sommeliers, bringing a wealth of experience to wine tasting at Nomad Beach Bar & Restaurant.
